The beautiful and resilient monarch butterfly emerged in recent years as the symbol of the undocumented immigrant rights movement in North America. Social media feeds are flooded with butterfly images with diverse slogans. Then on May 1st, 2017, while I was participating at a march, I happened to be walking behind this girl and her mother. My eyes were immediately drawn to her not only due to her colorful attire but because on a personal level she reminded me of my own daughter at that age.

Things would be so much different if all people saw the migrant children as our own...for sure family separation would end quickly. This photograph was captured at the International Workers Day rally held by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) in Florida. Nearly 250 farmworkers and their allies including children, women, and men took to the streets, some dancing and singing, for respect and dignity.
